Sardar Sukhbir Singh Badal Dy CM, Punjab inaugurates Punjab’s largest single location solar power plant of 31.5 MW in Mansa

  • Plant built by Hindustan Power at an investment of INR 202.4 crores using “leasing of land” mode to promote entrepreneurial attitude
  • Company to commission a 50 MW solar power plant at an investment of Rs 300 crores during the year
  • The energy generated from the 31.5 solar plant can power approx. 24,000 households per year

 

29th September 2016, Mansa, Punjab: The largest single location solar power plant in Punjab with a capacity of 31.5 MW built by Hindustan Power was inaugurated by Sardar Sukhbir Singh Badal, Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab. Also present were Sardar Bikram Singh Majithia, Hon’ble Minister for New & Renewable Energy, Govt. of Punjab , Sardar Balwinder Singh Bhunder, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Govt. of India. along with Sardar Ranjit Singh Waryam Nangal, Chairman PEDA and Sardar Kulwant Singh Keetu, Vice Chairman PEDA.
Situated in the cotton farming region of Punjab, the solar farm is part of the effort by the State Government to promote clean energy and at the same time turn farmers into green energy entrepreneurs by leasing their lands for building the project. The project was built with facilitation from various agencies of Punjab Govt. especially PEDA & PSPCL and other local agencies.

 

Sardar Bikram Singh Majithia, Hon’ble Minister for New & Renewable Energy, Govt. of Punjab, said “The state has laid out a clearly defined goal for the solar sector and expects to commissions 4.2 GW of clean and green energy by 2022. The program should attract an investment of Rs 30,000 crores and enable entrepreneurial attitude amongst the farmers of the State.”

 

Speaking on the occasion, Ratul Puri, Chairman Hindustan Power said, “We chose to work in Punjab due to the high level of governance in the state; strong policy measures and equally effective implementation. We have built the largest single solar power plant with an investment of Rs 202.4 crores and are constructing a 50 MW solar power plant at an investment of Rs 300 crores. This reflects the positive experience for the company working in the State of Punjab.”

 

Rajya Ghei, CEO – Domestic Solar, Hindustan Power said, “The project will feed 50 million units of clean energy annually to the 66 KV grid which is enough to cater to the energy needs of 24,000 households per year. Our experience of working in Punjab has been very good thanks to the proactive support and vision of PEDA officials along with the local authorities. ”
